run away!
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Genesis 39:1-41:16. And we see that things haven't really changed very much in the last 6000 years. Joseph succeeds in all he does, as God is blessing him. So this powerful guy in Egypt named Potipher puts him in charge of his house. And one day Potipher's wife tries to seduce Joseph. He does what we should all do when we're tempted... he runs away.
But it's very important that we notice what happens next. The world does NOT understand when we avoid sin, especially sexual sin. And the saying "Hell has no fury like a woman scorned" wasn't coined for no reason. Not only is Potipher's wife enraged at Joseph, she decides to lie and get him in trouble. Accuses him of doing the very thing he successfully avoided doing.
Of course God takes care of him after that. But we should take note. Fleeing temptation is the best answer. But don't be surprised when the world hates us for it. The world has hated us for it for thousands of years. And they're not going to stop anytime soon.
So flee temptation. And, like Joseph, trust God to take care of you.
God, thanks for showing us the right answer to a tricky question... and the results that come from it.
