what names are for

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Revelation 19:1-21. John tells us that Jesus comes riding on a white horse, and there is a name on Him that only He understands.

That's puzzling, isn't it? Names usually exist so that other people can call us or refer to us. There are some names that are special, like to a parent or a spouse, that they call their child or lover in a private way. Pet names, we call them.

But what would be the point of a name that you have that only YOU understand? We know that there are things that are so deep and full of God's mystery that we will never comprehend them. But it's good for us to ponder them anyway. It brings us closer to Him, and helps us realize how much we can trust Him.
