abiding in Him

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 John 2:18-3:6. John tells us to abide in Christ, and we will have eternal life. That sounds pretty important, doesn't it? So what does it mean to abide in Him?

Well, he answers that in 1 John 3:24. "He who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And we know that He abides in us by the Spirit that He has given us."

So we need to do what He tells us to do (which will bring us the greatest joy, btw), and we need to be filled with His spirit. There are things the Bible tells us that grieve the spirit, so we should avoid those things. And John will go on to tell us in chapter 4 that we MUST love one another in order for God's love to remain in us. We'll get to that in the coming days.

But for now: obey His commandments (which are not burdensome), and be filled with His spirit. If you need help with either of these, just ask. He'll answer you.
