poisonous root of bitterness

The pic above is of hemlock. We read about another poisonous root today in the One Year Bible, where we read from Hebrews 12:14-29. Paul tells us to avoid the poisonous root of bitterness (which, interestingly, can also be referred to as the bitter root of poison) because it will steal our faith, our joy, and cause us to become so focused on ourselves that love becomes either impossible or a great and difficult labor.

It can be easy to fall into bitterness in life, though. When people treat you badly. When everything seems to go wrong. When you try really hard but still fail. It's easy to become bitter. But if you ask for His help, He will lift you up out of bitterness and give you a heart full of love and faith once more.

Just ask. He's always there waiting, and listening. He'll answer your prayer and help you reject that bitter root.

God, thanks for hearing our prayers. Help us to avoid bitterness.
