all sorrow can be good sorrow
Today we read from the One Year Bible in 2 Corinthians 7:8-16. Paul says that the letter he sent them before caused them sorrow, but it was good sorrow, because it caused them to turn away from their mistakes and live better lives.
I found a wonderful quote by Aquinas, where he says that sorrow can be alleviated with a bath, sleep, and a glass of wine. That sounds nice. But the picture above is the remedy I've found. When I bury myself in work, it makes sorrow more manageable.
If you want to listen to a GREAT song about the wrong way to handle sorrow, listen to this.
But the take away message tonight is that all sorrow can be good sorrow, if we learn from it. If we offer our suffering up to God, and allow Him to use that sorrow, that pain, to make us more like Him. To make us more patient and kind and loving and good. If we just let Him, He'll make all of your sorrow the good kind.
God, thanks for transforming even the worst parts of our lives into good things.
