redeem the time, the days are evil

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 24:1-27. Paul is on trial, and he is so convincing that Felix, one of the rulers, gets frightened and sends him away. But then he has him come speak to him from time to time. He can't decide if he wants to follow Jesus or not. Also, he hopes Paul will bribe him.

Paul spends TWO YEARS in that condition. His fellow believers come and take care of his needs while he's in jail. But he's suffering. And he makes the best use of his time that he can, writing letters and encouraging the believers throughout the world to continue in the faith.

We are suffering, too. The church is under attack. There are scandals in the church and out of it. The days are evil... but we're called to redeem the time, just as Paul told the Ephesians in chapter 5 verse 16.

So make good use of your time! There is much evil today - but much good, too. And we're called to shine our light brightly in this darkness.

God, thanks for calling us to redeem the time. Help us shine brightly.
