He is willing

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Luke 5:12-28. Jesus is approached by a man with leprosy who says, "Lord, if You're willing, You can heal me."

Jesus once again uses the moment not just to meet the need of the man in front of Him, but to teach us a powerful lesson. He says, "I am willing. Be healed."

He IS willing to not only heal us, but to give us everything we need. And even to give us everything that we WANT. The thing is, most of us don't know what we want. That's why we need to spend time with Him in prayer. He'll teach us what we want. See, we THINK we want to be healthy and wealthy and free from all cares. But what we REALLY want is satisfaction and meaning and depth and richness to our lives. We WILL eventually get old and die. We probably DON'T need millions of dollars or a nicer house or newer car. And having things to "worry about" (i.e. be responsible for) are probably good for us.

So when He teaches us what we really DO want, He'll help us to find the answer to those desires. He gives us the desires of our hearts... both the desires themselves, and the fulfillment of them.

Just be patient. He will give you everything you ever wanted... truly wanted... and so much more than you can imagine.

God, thanks for being willing.

Good stuff. What you said reminded me of Psalm 37:4 “Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.”
