a very good question
Today in the One Year Bible, we read a very good question that the crowd asks in Luke 3:1-22. John the Baptist doesn't mince words. He calls them snakes, and tells them that (like we discussed in yesterday's blog) we can't trust that our family will save us.
The crowd hears John telling them that they need to GENUINELY turn from their sins, and they ask a very good question that we should listen to today. "What should we do?"
That's a great question. It means that the crowd has listened to John's message and believed it. It means that they are ready to act. And it means that they have the humility to ask what the right way to act actually is.
When we discover that we need to repent today, we need to learn from these people. We should, in the privacy of our hearts, turn to God and ask, "What should we do?" And realize that while there is a private, personal aspect of repentance, there is ALSO a very real public, corporate aspect to it as well. It IS me and Jesus, but it's not JUST me and Jesus. We're all in this together, and we have to realize how responsible we are not just for our own decisions, but for those in our lives.
God, please show us what we should do. And help us to do it.
