in such a short time

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Mark 6:30-56. Jesus is trying to get away from the crowd so He and His disciples have some time to eat and rest, since they'd been so busy healing and teaching people that they hadn't even had time to eat.

But the people kept coming. And they kept chasing after Jesus and His followers. And instead of doing what you or I would do and get impatient with them, He has compassion on them and sees that they're like sheep without a shepherd. So He continues to heal and teach them.

It's easy to get frustrated with people. When we feel like our needs aren't being met, or that people are taking advantage of us. But Jesus shows us exactly what our response should be. To see the hurt and needs of those in our lives, and to help them.

We're in this life for such a short time. The years fly by. Can you believe that it's already the end of February? It seems like 2019 just began. We have such a short time to choose how we're going to be with people. Are we going to love them, or are we going to be selfish? If you're anything like me, it depends on what day it is. But with God's help, we can be loving more days than selfish.

God, thanks for showing us how to love people, even when we feel neglected.
