harden not your hearts
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Revelation 16:1-21. We read about those who suffer greatly from the sores and the blood and all of the plagues sent down on them at the end of time... but they refuse to repent of their sins and turn back to Him.
We're reminded of Pharaoh, who also had plagues visited on him, but he continued to harden his heart until it destroyed him and his people. It brings to mind the story of Emile Zola, who heard that there were miracles happening in the waters at Lourdes, so he went there to see for himself. He saw a young woman with a horrible sink condition go down into the water, and come back out with healthy, pink skin instead. But he went away saying, "Even though I have seen with my own eyes, I still don't believe."
God is speaking to you, today. He is calling you to turn away from your sins, and to love Him and love other people. Of course, loving people doesn't mean having warm, happy feelings about them (though that sometimes comes with it.) Loving people, the way we're commanded to love them, means desiring their good, and working toward it. Forgiving them if they've done wrong, just as God has forgiven us. Helping them to live abundant lives, just like God helps US to live them. It means treating people the way God treats them... giving even the most undeserving people great blessings.
God is speaking to you. Calling you to love.
Harden not your heart.
God, thanks for calling us to love. Help us to soften our hearts and love Your children.
