is money the root of all evil?

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from James 5:1-20. We are warned pretty strongly about the dangers of being wealthy. It's so easy for us to fall into complacency when we are well off, and not care about those who need help. If you're thinking, "I'm not wealthy, I don't have lots of money," you might rethink that, since even the poorest of Americans are very well off by world standards. You might be reading this from another country, but if you have access to the internet, chances are you're one of those who need to be helping, rather than one who needs help. If you do happen to need help, God bless you, and may He provide the help you need, through me if He chooses to give me that honor.

But it's important for us to realize that we're given riches for a reason. This life is very short... and we don't take our wealth with us when we die. We need to invest it in what lasts forever - other people.

Is money the root of all evil? No. The Bible says that the LOVE of money is the root of all KINDS of evil. But it IS important to put money in its proper place - in being generous in helping those in need.

God, please give us generous hearts.
