helping the poor

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Galatians 2:1-16. In this excerpt, Paul says that Peter, James, and John encouraged him to help the poor. And he adds that he has "always been eager to do so."

Let's let that sink in. Let's fill our minds with the fact that Paul was EAGER to help the poor. And let's make that our mindset as well. Not reluctantly handing out our spare change. Not holding our nose while we drop some coins into their hands. But EAGERLY helping them. Treating them the way we would treat Jesus if we encountered Him on the street. Because He says that that is exactly what we're doing.

God, please help us be eager to meet You in the poor, and to help You there.
