what God tells us

Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 Corinthians 2:6-3:4. Paul tells us that God reveals things to those who know Him that it is impossible for those who don't know Him to understand. They will just find it to be nonsense - foolishness.

And that makes sense, even on a human level. The things that lovers say to one another make perfect sense to the lovers - but to everyone else, they seem like gibberish.

When God speaks to our hearts, it is from one lover to another. It is the deep, intimate talk that no one else will entirely understand. Other lovers of God will relate - but even they won't know what it means to US. God speaks a slightly different language to each of us. The languages make sense together... each language He speaks to each of our hearts corresponds to the language He speaks to other hearts. They're congruent. But the way He speaks to each of us is in the language of His heart - and of ours.

So don't be dismayed when God speaks to you and tells you things that others don't seem to relate to. Some things He gives you to share - while some things are just for you.

God tells me little "jokes" sometimes. They only make sense to me. When I try to tell other people about them... I can describe what they are, but not why they're funny. Not why they mean something to me. In my life, He does it with funny little coincidences. I'll be thinking about dolphins at the same moment that a song on the radio talks about dolphins, and at the same time I'll see a billboard with dolphins on it. These little serendipities don't make any sense to anyone but me and Him. And they aren't profound truths to share. They're just little tokens of His love.

How does He speak to your heart?

God, thanks for speaking our heart language.
