clever speech
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from 1 Corinthians 1:1-17. And Paul says to keep it simple, stupid.
OK, he doesn't use those exact words. But he says that he was determined not to use "clever speech", but rather to keep to the subject: Jesus crucified.
Oscar Wilde once said that he was so witty, he didn't understand half the things he said.
Sometimes we get so caught up in trying to use a clever or original way of sharing the good news that Jesus loves us, that we end up making the mistake Oscar did, and that Paul avoided.
Let's keep it simple. God loves you. Love Him. Love others. That's pretty much it.
God, thanks for keeping things simple. Please help us do the same.
