when Jewish people believe in Jesus
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Romans 9:25-10:13. And in this passage, Paul tells us that whoever declares with their mouths that Jesus is Lord, and believes in their heart that God raised Him from the dead will be saved. And I recently realized why he said it this way.
I was reading a book called "The Chosen" by Chaim Potok. It's a great book about some Jewish people living in New York during and right after World War II. And throughout the book, they keep saying that they're waiting for the Messiah to come. And it's interesting to read about, but as a Christian, I kept feeling frustrated because I wanted them to realize that Jesus IS the Messiah. And then it hit me. If these Jewish people declared with their mouths that Jesus is Lord, and believed in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead, they would become Christians and they would be saved. Modern Jews are people who do NOT declare that Jesus is Lord or believe in their hearts that He rose from the dead. That's precisely why they're not Christians.
Of course, the lesson comes down to us in our daily lives today, too. Because we continue to declare that He is Lord, and to believe that God raised Him from death. And this brings us to eternal life in our daily walk now, and steers us away from error and death. It continually saves us, every day.
God, thank You for showing us how we move from death into life. Help us to share this good news.
