agreeing with God

Today we read from Romans 8:26-39 in the One Year Bible. And in this passage, we read that the Holy Spirit prays for us. In fact, it prays for us in ways that we don't know to pray for ourselves. That's pretty profound. Since the Holy Spirit is God, that means that God is discussing with Himself what we need, and giving it to us even though we're not smart enough to pray for it.

But what we learn as we go along is that most of what prayer really is... what it amounts to when you do it more and more.... is learning to agree with God. See, God knows everything, right? He's right about everything. So the more we learn to agree with Him, the more we see things correctly. The more we realize what the truth is. So when we pray, we should strive to align our thoughts and our requests with what He is thinking and doing. It's good, in fact, for us to learn to ASK Him to make our will align with His. To help us to think like He thinks. Because then, when we ask for something, He will of course give it to us. Because we've learned to ask for the things that He wants to give us all along.

God, thank You for Your Holy Spirit, which prays for us. Please help us learn to agree with You.
