where we find joy

Today we read from Psalm 128:1-6 in the One Year Bible. And we find the source of joy.

The Psalmist tells us that fearing God and following His commands brings us joy. And this is a deep wisdom that most people don't understand. Everyone seems to think that God is a cosmic killjoy who wants to deprive us of fun. This is the exact opposite of the truth.

God wants to bring us into the deepest of joys. He wants to enable us to do the very thing we were created to do. He wants to teach us how to use the gifts He gave us to do the thing that will impact the world most powerfully - and bring us the deepest satisfaction and happiness in the process.

The truth is that the ONLY place you can find your deepest joy is by doing His will - because His will is what you were created to do.

Seek His will. Ask Him to help you do it. You better believe He'll answer that prayer with a resounding YES.

God, thank You for bringing us to Your deepest joy. Help us to trust You for it.
