what God calls clean
Today we read from Acts 10:24-48 in the One Year Bible. In this reading, Peter has a vision in which God instructs him regarding foods that he can eat, but they also represent people that he can share the gospel with.
God's vision is always bigger than ours, right? His ways are so huge, we can't even comprehend them. So we need to always remember to keep our minds open for what He plans to do in our lives. Let's be careful not to call unclean what God has called clean. And that USUALLY means other people.
It's easy to fall into the trap of expecting certain people, or certain TYPES of people, to act certain ways. And if we start seeing them change their lives and do good, there is part of us that wants to fight it. A good example of this is the meeting with Trump and Kim. While no one is entirely sure what will come of this meeting, even Trump and Kim don't know, we CAN pray with confidence that God will work good from this meeting. And we can have hope that two men with pretty lousy backgrounds might actually be doing some good for once.
Maybe they're not. Maybe it's all politics, and maybe one or both of them are just playing games. But we can rise above the cynicism of expecting evil from politicians, and hope and pray for real change. Even though the evil that men do is great, God is greater, and can work in the heart of every man. So let's pray for our leaders, and refrain from calling unclean what God may just be calling clean.
Let's pray for our leaders, and let's pray that His kingdom will come on earth as it is in heaven.
God, please bless our leaders, and help them to find peace. And help us to find the clean things You send us, and refrain from thinking of them as permanently unclean.
