this god whom you worship without knowing it
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from Acts 17:1-34. Paul speaks to the Athenians, and he uses the "shrine to an unknown god" that he saw in their city as a starting point to share the good news of Jesus with them.
This is a very insightful and wise approach to telling people about God. Not to act as though we are introducing a new idea they've never heard of, but rather finding how God is ALREADY at work in their lives, and fanning those flames into healthier life.
In humility, we should also realize that we too worship a God that we don't altogether understand. We too praise Him and love Him, but don't fully grasp Him, as He is beyond our ability to grasp. As we have come across a little more of the truth of who He is, we are simply beggars telling other beggars where to find good Bread.
Let's invite the God who we don't fully know to work in our own lives more fully... and to help others come to know Him better.
God, thank You for revealing Your truth to us... and keeping us humble by being more Truth than we can fathom.
