so that we might have eternal life
Jesus does lots of miraculous things in today's reading from the One Year Bible. We read from John 20:1-31. John tells us that Jesus did the wonders listed in the gospels, but also many more. And that the purpose was for us to believe in Him, so that we can have eternal life.
It's something we've grown used to over time, having heard it so many times. But stop and think about it. Jesus came to earth to make it possible for us to live forever. He performed many miracles so that we would believe Him when He told us what to do to live forever. If we believe Him, we'll do those things. And death then loses its sting, and the grave its victory. He will raise us to eternal life on the last day.
Let's stop and think about it. And be grateful for what He's done. With it, our earthly lives are filled with meaning and peace. Without it, our lives are empty and void. Let's stay attached to the vine, so that we continue to experience His life both now and forever.
God, thank You for coming to earth to give us eternal life.

When I read about the women returning to the tomb on the 3rd day to continue with the annointing, I think of Mary.
Our Blessed Mother knew he woudn't be there, so she didn't go ! I wonder what the other women thought of her at that time!
RE: verse 5. St. John Chrystotom writes: ...that Christ's body being buried with myrrh, the linen would stick as fast to the body as pitch, so that it would be impossible to steal the body withut the linen cloths.
