Jesus is happy

Today we read from Luke 10:13-37 in the One Year Bible. And I found something I've never noticed before. That's two days in a row!

I guess I've read this passage many times, since I've spent several years reading the One Year Bible every day. But I never noticed it until now. We read about Jesus weeping. And we see Jesus angry. But until today, I would have said that there aren't any verses in which Jesus is happy, smiling, or laughing.

But today we come across Luke 10:21. Jesus "rejoices in the Holy Spirit" one translation says. Another says He "is made joyful by the Holy Spirit." However we translate it, Jesus was happy. And what made Him happy? The fact that God has hidden things from the wise and powerful, and revealed them to the simple and childlike.

That should bring us joy, too, right? Because Jesus is referring to us in this verse. That God reveals things to us, when we allow ourselves to be childlike, and to come to Him with the wonder that children have, being willing to be taught. We can be happy that Jesus's happiness brings insight to the simple.

God, help us to come to You as children, so that You can rejoice in revealing Your secrets to us.
