tell them what you have seen
In today's reading from the One Year Bible, we read from Luke 7:11-35. Jesus is performing miracles, including raising a young man from the dead, much to his mother's delight. But John the Baptist is starting to have his doubts, for some reason. Probably because Jesus's plans were so big that John the Baptist couldn't see them - he was expecting a Messiah that would beat down Rome and reinstate a Jewish nation. He wasn't expecting a savior that would transform the whole world.
So he sent his disciples and asked, "Are you the Messiah, or should we look for someone else?" And Jesus answers him, not only answering his question, but ours as well, if we're brave enough to ask it. "Tell what you have seen."
That's what we're all called to do, isn't it? To share what we've seen God do. To recount the stories of all of the things, big and small, that He has done in our lives. To let those in our lives who are struggling with doubts, because His plans are so much bigger than they can trace with their tiny fingers, know that He never stopped doing wonders. That He still heals the hurting, and brings sight to the blind. That He never quit bringing people back from the dead - and He will only stop when all of us are alive once again.
Next time you come across someone struggling with doubts... especially if you find them in the mirror.... "Tell what you have seen."
God, thank You for bringing us back to life.

I needed to hear this. Too often I have not testified when I could have.
Amen
