do whatever He tells you
St Ambrose tells us about Mary's humility today in A Year with the Church Fathers. That she could have been puffed up with pride at the news the angel gave her. But instead, she humbly submitted to what God had chosen for her, as His servant.
The very last words the Bible records Mary saying are, "Do whatever He tells you." And that's her purpose. To direct our gaze to Jesus. I love the picture above, because you see Jesus literally eclipsing her face. She places Jesus in the perfect position so that when we look at her, we see Him. That's her job.
That's our job, too.
Let's remember to follow her example of humility. To love Jesus and direct others to "do whatever He tells you." To place Jesus in the perfect position so that when people look at us, they see Him.
God, help us to do what Mary did. So Jesus can be seen by all.
