what are treasures in heaven?
Today in A Year with the Church Fathers, Theodoret tells us about looking forward to the resurrection.
And that brings up the idea of treasures in heaven. Have you thought about what that means? We're told to store our treasures in heaven where moths and rust and decay can't touch them, rather than on earth where they can easily be destroyed. But what exactly does that mean?
Well, there are of course things that it means that we can't fathom. We are explicitly told such. Eye has not seen and ear has not heard what God has ready for those who love Him. That's the treasure in heaven.
BUT.
We DO know what some of that treasure looks like. Because even though our dollars and our art and our books and our food and houses and cars and phones won't go with us when we die, we DO know something that will, right? Other people. So if we spend our lives pouring ourselves into other people, giving them love and helping them become saints, we will be investing our resources in something that we know WILL go with us when the time comes to see our Lord.
So let's stop hoarding, and start giving. And believe me, I'm talking to myself more than to anyone else.
God, thanks for helping us see how to store up treasure in heaven.
