Greetings, and welcome to a new year of daily time with Jesus. This year, as I have mentioned in another blog, we are reading The Daily Reader for Contemplative Living by Thomas Keating. You can purchase the ebook here: click here
The readings are short but very rich this year. I will share the Scripture reading in my blog, but the rest of the daily thought by Keating I will only comment on. If you would like to purchase the book and follow along, you're welcome to. Otherwise, you can just read the Scripture I share and then read my reflection. It's up to you!
So there is much to be found in today's short reading. Fr. Keating tells us that prayer is (among other things), learning to see things differently in our lives. That when we pray, we are cooperating with a conversation that God has already begun with us. We're not starting this talk... God started it, and we're just joining in.
He says that when we start participating in this conversation, with God who is already all around us and working in our lives, we begin to see our lives differently. We see what He's already doing. We learn to cooperate with His work rather than consciously or unconsciously working against it.
So let us, this first day of a brand new year, open ourselves up to this great conversation. Let's, with abandon, throw ourselves into the arms of our gentle guide, who loves us more than we can imagine. And let's learn, this year, to see our whole lives in a brand new (and far more accurate) way.
The way we start is simple: bask in His presence. May the Lord bless you and keep you... May He make His face shine upon you...and be gracious to you... may He lift His countenance on you, and give you peace.
Yes, Lord. Please shine Your face on us. We cooperate.
