Lewis lays down the most important question today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.
He says that the question of eternity is not so much about where Herod will go, or where our loved ones will go. The question, really, is where YOU will go. Whether, at the end of your life, Jesus will say to you "Well done, my good and faithful servant", or "Depart from Me, for I never knew you."
There is no more important question in this life. If there is any doubt in your mind, ask Him to come and lead you home. Believe me, He wants that more than you do. He will definitely answer that prayer in the affirmative.
But the question isn't settled there. The question isn't answered and then we go on with our lives. The question is put before us every day. Will we follow Jesus today, or will we do our own thing? Will we know Him better today, or will our lives move away from Him a little more?
See, discipleship doesn't mean "Accept Jesus and then do your own thing." It means taking up our cross every day and following Him. Yes, His yoke is easy, and His burden is light. But we still have to take on that yoke and carry that burden every day.
Seek Him. Get closer to Him. Ask Him to help you walk with Him daily.
You'll be glad you did.
God, thank You for calling us. Please call us closer.
