Lewis tells us about doing everything to God's glory today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.
And that brings up an important point. We're often afraid, I think, of letting the world "rub off on us." We worry about hanging out with "the wrong crowd", and we try to protect our own holiness by avoiding people who do "bad things."
But when we look at the life of Jesus, we see that He wasn't afraid. He knew that the goodness inside of Him was infinitely more powerful than the evil in the world around Him. He knew that when the good in Him rubbed against the evil in the world, He wouldn't become more evil... the world would become more like Him instead.
Now, wisdom is needed here to know how to apply this deep truth. It doesn't mean we should foolishly act out of control and put ourselves in compromising situations that DO hurt us and our faith. But neither does it mean that we should live in fear of what someone or something might do to our holiness.
The balance, of course, is found in love. It's found in asking Him to make us fearless... and wise.
Once He gives us wisdom and takes away our fears.... our lives will become amazing.
God, please give us the courage to ask for wisdom... and fearlessness.
