Lewis tells us that there are two things we should pay attention to today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.
He says that God wants us to focus on the eternal... to do what counts for "His kingdom to come, His will to be done on earth as it is in Heaven". And to focus on the present moment. Good advice.
When we focus on both, we find the difference between living IN the moment versus living FOR the moment. People who live for the moment don't worry about consequences... they just do what they enjoy right now. This isn't wise.
But people who live IN the moment experience the grace that God gives us each day. See, He doesn't give us the grace we need for tomorrow or for yesterday. He gives us the grace we need for today. By the way, He also doesn't give YOU the grace that your friend needs. He gives you the grace YOU need. Sometimes we worry about tomorrow... or our friend... but this is senseless worry. He gives your FRIEND the grace they need. He gives YOU the grace you need when you need it. That's why He tells us not to worry about tomorrow... sufficient to today is the trouble today. Because His grace is present in the here and now.
God, thank you for infusing our present moment with the grace of eternity.
