So I saw Suicide Squad tonight. I had high expectations. And I enjoyed it.
It's not for everyone. It's a little dark, and the language is strong in places. It could have been much better with better writing and a couple actor replacements. The Joker is terrible. He's got a great laugh, but he's boring otherwise. Most of the supporting cast is weak, especially the army guys.
The reason to see this is Harley Quinn. She carries it. Will Smith as Deadshot helps, but Harley is the reason to pay admission. She's funny, quirky, crazy, and even touching in places. If you like Harley, you'll like the movie. If you don't, you should save your money.
Speaking of saving your money, don't see it in 3D. I saw it in 3D because all of the other D's were sold out. Most of the movie is in 2D, with a couple things popping out at you which don't really need to. Watch it in 2D (unless you really love those glasses).
The bad guy (aka the Sorceress) is sort of a creepy witch that makes the film a little darker than it probably should be... we needed a funner, quirkier bad guy to make the whole thing pop. The bad guy scenes feel like they take themselves too seriously... and it makes the "Con Air" fun vibe of the rest of the movie feel disjointed.
However, the soundtrack rocks. Great compilation. I wanted to turn it up every time they played a song.
All in all, I recommend it with the above caveats. Hope you enjoy.
