Lewis tells us about how hard and how easy it is to follow Jesus today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.
He tells us that following Jesus is like dying. And that following Jesus is easy, and the burden is light. Which one is it?
Well, there is a character in this book I'm reading right now named Amy. She's very wise. And when you ask her most questions, her answer is "Yes and no." How can the answer be both yes and no?? the other characters ask. And she usually makes them figure it out.
I'm not going to make you figure it out. We'll work our way through it together. Following Jesus is the hardest thing you'll ever do. It demands more from you than any other thing you've ever considered doing. It demands your whole life. It means giving up everything for Him.
But. In His own words, it means receiving everything back. It means finding the thing that you thought you wanted all along, but looked for in the wrong places. It means doing the thing you were MADE for... which brings you great joy.
Is it hard? Yes and no. It's the hardest thing you'll ever do. And His yoke is easy, His burden is light.
Thanks, God, for challenging us... and for helping us follow You.
