Lewis makes a point today that one might be tempted to argue with. He says that we won't "get eternal life" by just experiencing beauty or music. One might recall the words of Paul in Romans in which he points to the wonders of God's creation as the way that some people know about God.
But Lewis is right (like usual). We don't enter the Kingdom of God by just hearing a song or seeing a sunset. We might BEGIN the journey by these means. But following Jesus doesn't mean starting to follow Jesus. It means following Him. All the way.
Sometimes following Him is hard. He called it "taking up our cross", and while that may be many things, "easy" is not one of them. Now, to balance that (lest we go looking for more challenge than He gives us) He also says His yoke is easy and His burden is light. How can it be both?
Well, the answer is that He equips us. When He gives us a challenge, He gives us the ability to overcome that challenge. When He sets a load on our shoulders, He gives our shoulders the strength to carry it.
Do you feel like you're carrying a heavier load that the strength He's given your shoulders? Well, if you've read my blogs for any length of time, you'll know what I'm going to say already. Ask for more. Ask for strength. Ask for His help, His joy, His presence. The Bible says that "the joy of the LORD is my strength".
You might not get the answer the second you ask. You might not get the answer in a day or a week. But He'll answer you. He is faithful that way.
Thank You, God, for giving us the strength we need to carry our loads.
