today's readings: Joshua 5:1-7:15, Luke 15:1-32, Psalm 81:1-16, Proverbs 13:1
most of us are familiar with the story. the younger son goes and squanders his inheritance. he comes to his senses, comes home prepared to be a servant. but.
one of the most beautiful words in the whole Bible... but. this isn't the only place we see the glorious but. (yes, i know that sounds funny) :)
you've got "but while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." and "but God, being rich in mercy, made us alive together with Him."
and here in today's readings we have the wonderful "but" when the son tells the father he'll be a servant. "but the father told his servants..." and he welcomes him home and throws a party. he's so excited, because he loves his son so much.
this love is again evidenced in the Psalm. read verses 13 through 16 again. "Oh, that my people would listen to me... I would feed you with the finest wheat..." how He longs to take care of His people... even when they're sinning against Him.
has it ever occurred to you how much God loves you?
