God and money

Today we look at these verses in the One Year Bible:

Joshua 7:16-9:2
Luke 16:1-18
Psalm 82:1-8
Proverbs 13:2-3

Let's look at Luke. Jesus tells us that we can't serve both God and money. What does that mean? That we should give away all our money and be homeless? Probably not.

What it means is that God needs to be first in our lives. God needs to be our master. Not money. So many people today do whatever it takes to make more money - especially in the United States, where capitalism can be a little out of control and people will do anything - and force others to do anything - to make as much money as possible.

When we put God first, we give generously. We take care of the poor. We make sure that we do what God calls us to do - like go to church on Sunday - rather than sacrifice our relationship with Him to make more money. God tells us to get rest. He has COMMANDED us to take a day off each week and rest and spend time with Him. Because He knows that if He doesn't make it a commandment, many of us will just keep working to make more money.

How can you choose to put God first over money in your life today?

God, thanks for reminding us that You must come first, before anything else.
