We Get to Choose: One Year Bible Reading for June 12

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

1 Kings 9:1-10:29
Acts 8:14-40
Psalm 130:1-8
Proverbs 17:2-3

Let's look at 1 Kings. God tells Solomon that He has blessed his temple with His presence. And then He makes him a promise. If Solomon follows after his father David's example and does what God is calling him to do, He will bless him and his descendants will continue to rule over Israel forever. But if he doesn't, then Israel will be cut off and the temple will be abandoned. Solomon has to choose what he will do.

God gives me and you that same kind of choice today. Will we follow the example given to us by all of the saints who came before us? If we do, He will bless us with joy and love in this life, and greater things than we can imagine in the next life. If we don't choose to follow Him but do our own thing instead and do "what is right in our own eyes", then we will find emptiness and despair in this life and in the next.

What will you choose? Choose wisely.

God, thanks for telling us plainly that we have a choice to make. Help us choose wisely.
