Who the Land Belongs to: One Year Bible Reading for April 20

Today we read these verses in the One Year Bible:

Let's look at Joshua. The children of Israel have just entered their promised land, and Joshua is dividing it up among the tribes. As we know looking back from modern times, these lands were held by these groups for years, and then there were many wars, and those lands have been disputed ever since. The middle east is now devastated by constant war as various groups lay claim to it for one reason or another. So who does the land actually belong to?

Well, it all belongs to God. And we should see it as our temporary living space. Treat it with the same detachment with which we think of a hotel room. We will live here for a short time, and then we will move on to our actual promised land. And we will live there forever. So let's try to fight less over land, and let's pray for peace in the middle east (and in Ukraine.)

God, thanks for reminding us that You own all the land, and we are just passing through.
