Don't Trust Money: One Year Bible Reading for March 25

Today we read from the following verses in the One Year Bible:

Deuteronomy 4:1-49
Luke 6:39-7:10
Psalm 68:1-18
Proverbs 11:28

Let's look at Proverbs 11:28. It says something very simple and very profound (like a proverb). "Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf." Now, first notice that there is a play on words here. Those who trust riches will fall - like leaves that dry up and die in the autumn. But the righteous will thrive - like a green leaf that is alive and still attached to the tree.

When we trust in money, we detach ourselves from God. And that detachment kills us. Apart from Him we can do nothing. We fall from the tree of life and get stomped on the ground.

Next, notice that the writer distinguishes those who trust in money from the righteous. It's an automatic line - you're either righteous, OR you trust in money. You can't trust money and be righteous. You serve either God or mammon (money).

Which are you serving today? Where are your priorities? Does your spending reflect the fact that you trust in God and not in money?

God, thanks for making it clear that we should trust You.
