What Love Looks Like: One Year Bible Reading for January 16

Today we read from the following passages in the One Year Bible:

Genesis 32:13-34:31
Matthew 11:7-30
Psalm 14:1-7
Proverbs 3:19-20

in And the verse that jumps out at me is from Genesis 32. Jacob is afraid that Esau is going to be mad at him. And, pretty cowardly, he sends his wives and family and servants ahead of him to meet Esau first, before him.

But Esau RAN to meet Jacob and embraced him. The same way the prodigal father ran to the prodigal son and embraced him. The same way that God runs to us when we come limping back to him, dragging our leg behind us because of the battles we've fought on the way. Still with a crick in our neck from sleeping with a rock pillow. And probably still smelling of the animals that crossed our path on our way to see Him.

Do we need to repent of our sins? Of course we do. God brings us as saints into heaven. But He runs to us and embraces us. We are His children, and that's what love looks like. If you feel far from Him today, ask Him to bring you back. I promise you, He will.

God, thanks for showing us what love looks like.
