St Vincent de Paul: From Lukewarm to Hot

Today we celebrate a priest named St Vincent de Paul. He was a priest from a young age, but not very fervent, just kind of going through the motions. Then he was captured and sold into slavery. After many years and being sold from owner to owner, he finally escaped and returned to France. His suffering had deepened his faith, and he became a very dedicated and devout priest, ministering to the needs of the poor in his community. You can read more about him here.

St Vincent de Paul learned holiness the hard way. He suffered greatly in his life, and that brought him to seek a more devout, holy life. We can learn from him the easy way. That's the great thing about reading, especially reading the lives of saints. We can learn from their mistakes and their good decisions, and avoid the pitfalls that they fell into. What pitfall can we avoid from reading about St Vincent de Paul?

God, thanks for the great example of this man's life. St Vincent de Paul, pray for us.
