Wow, do we celebrate an amazing saint today. Peter Claver became a Jesuit once out of college. He then went on to minister to those taken into slavery. He would go down into the cargo holds of slave ships and alleviate the misery of the people being treated like cargo. He would also share the gospel with them, in large drawings of the life of Christ. He baptized over 300,000 Africans. He spent most of his life helping some of the poorest people on Earth. When he finally died, he called himself the slave to the Africans. You can read more about him here.
There is alot of misery today, too. There are at least hundreds of thousands of girls sold into sex slavery all over the world today. What can you do to help? Do a quick Google search and find out how you can get involved. And at the very least (and the very most!) pray for them.
God, thanks for the amazing, inspiring example of this slave to the Africans. St Peter Claver, pray for us.
