Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 3:22-4:3. John's disciples are upset because more people are following Jesus than are following John. John sets them straight. He tells them that the bride marries the groom, and the best man is just happy to stand with him and hear his vows.
That's a great attitude, and one that displays the very humility that we all need to find. And it especially is true in our lives regarding Jesus. We want to constantly be pointing people to Him, and not trying to get people to follow our own brand of Christianity. Just pointing people to Jesus and getting out of the way is best. Then we can hear the bride and groom exchange their vows.
God, thanks for giving us such a great example of holy humility in John the Baptist. Help us emulate him.
