hearing His voice
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 10:1-21. Jesus tells us that His sheep hear His voice and follow Him.
Do you know what His voice sounds like? There are ways that you can learn, if you're interested in learning. That's the first step, you know. WANTING to hear it. Some people pretend He doesn't exist. Some think that the time when God spoke to us is over, and we can only read the Bible now to know what He wants. But He is still speaking today, and you can hear Him talk to you.
Most people don't hear an audible voice when God speaks to them. I say most, because some do. But when God speaks to you, it usually "sounds" like your thoughts. But it's a thought you hadn't previously had that just kind of pops into your head. And you can recognize that it's from Him because it will agree with the other things He's told us.
So one good way to learn to recognize His voice is to read the Bible. You'll start to learn what He sounds like when you read His words. And then talk to people who know Him well and let them tell you stories. And you might read some books about people who were close to God. After awhile, you'll start to recognize that particular brand of strangeness that is an indicator that God is at work.
Are you ready to hear what He has to tell you? And are you ready to do it?
God, please teach us to hear Your voice, and to do what You ask.
