don't weep like the pagans do
Today in the One Year Bible, we read from John 14:15-31. Jesus tells His disciples that if they really loved Him, they would be happy for Him that He was going to the Father.
Therese of Lisieux (pictured above) said something similar to her mom. She told her that she hoped her mom would die soon. Her mom was aghast and asked why in the world she would say that. Therese told her that she would be happier when she was in heaven, perfectly happy, so of course she wanted her to go there soon. And she did.
When those we love pass away, we will of course miss them, and grieve their passing. Jesus wept for those He loved when they died, even though He knew He would bring them back to life. But it's important for us to take our faith seriously, and to know that they are in a place where they're far happier... with the Father. Jesus said to be happy for Him. Therese wished her mom to go there sooner, and be fully happy.
So remember to be happy when your loved ones go home. And don't be afraid when it's your turn.
God, thanks for teaching us not to mourn like the pagans do when someone we love goes home.
