everything He did pleased God

Today we read from John 8:21-30 in the One Year Bible. We read about Jesus telling people that they can't follow where He is going. And then He says, "I always do what pleases Him."

That's quite a statement, isn't it? That's what it means to live without sin. That everything you do pleases God. But it's even harder than we first imagine. Because it not only means that He always did the right thing, but that He did everything for the right reason. That boggles the mind.

But the good news is that He offers to put His spirit into our hearts. To give us hearts of flesh to replace the hearts of stone that it's so easy to find ourselves having. To give us the DESIRE to do His will. He wants to create inside of us the same desire that He had - to do the will of the Father.

If you ask Him to - He will change your heart into a heart that pleases God - and is pleased by doing the Father's will. That's how great God is. He not only shows us what to do, He even gives us the desire to do it.

God, thank You for giving us Your example to follow - and for giving us the desire to do Your will.
