Jesus is confusing

We read Luke 16:1-18 today in the One Year Bible. And in it, Jesus tells a confusing story about a man who cheats his employer multiple times, and is rewarded for it. And Jesus seems to tell us that his worldly wisdom is something we can learn from.

It's to be expected that Jesus would say things that confuse us. Jesus is God, and God's ways are higher than ours, and his thoughts are not our thoughts. He teaches us things about the real world, and the world isn't easy to understand. It's complicated, and messy. And that's where we find Jesus, right in the middle of the complicated, real, messy world. We find Him healing people with His spit, and writing in the dirt with His finger.

And we find Him right in the middle of our deepest needs, our most desperate prayers, and our darkest nights. He's here in the messy reality of what life looks like when it falls apart. And He's the expert of making sense of what we can't even begin to understand.

God, thank You for being here with us in the messy reality of our lives.
