the Lord loves a workin man

We see God rewarding faithful work today in our reading from the One Year Bible. The selection is from Luke 2:1-35.

Two different times God rewards the faithful in the reading. First, there are shepherds guarding their sheep. They're out there in the night, making sure their sheep are safe. And considering what Jesus told Peter when he said he loved Him, that's something near to His heart. You'll also notice that as soon as they get done seeing Jesus, they go back to take care of the sheep. That faithfulness is rewarded by being some of the first people to ever see our Lord's face.

Then we meet Simeon, who has been serving God all of his long life, and who was promised in return for that faithful service that He would see the Messiah before he died. And thus he also became one of the first people to ever see our Lord's face.

How is He calling you to faithfulness today? If we follow Him faithfully, maybe we'll see His face too.

God, help us be faithful.
