mercy is important to God

St Cyril talks to us today in A Year with the Church Fathers about forgiveness. He says that even a man like Nebudchanezzar, who had killed thousands of people, desecrated the temple, took God's chosen people into captivity. Even THIS guy, God showed mercy to. He did something interesting.

God turned this evil king into a "senseless beast". He took him to a place of helplessness so that he could see what's important in life. He took away his power so he could find perspective. He allowed this king to change his heart.

God does this for us, too. He is rich in mercy. As we read through the Old Testament, we see God making it a priority to emphasize to us how merciful He is. Doesn't it make you wonder why?

Why is mercy and forgiveness so important to Him? Because they are integral to the love He has for us. It's so beyond our comprehension how much He loves us.

God, thank You for your mercy and love, which convert even the worst of us.
