hope for our sinking ship

St John Chrysostom teaches us something pretty important today in A Year with the Church Fathers.

He tells us that even though Adam and Eve shipwrecked humanity, we can see the amazing thing that God did to make the results better than the fall. And he says that God does the same thing in each of our lives.

We have all blown it, haven't we? Messed up. Dropped the ball. Made decisions so bad, based on selfishness, that we find ourselves in a horrible situation, not able to find a way out. But God reaches into our sinful, sad little lives and saves us from our own bad choices.

While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

He began saving us long before we even knew to ask. He forgives us for the sins that we've committed. It's important that we learn to forgive ourselves. If we have trouble doing that, we can ask, and He will help us.

God, thank You for making something good out of my shipwreck.

I read the title of your post right after watching the Inauguration and assumed it was about our Country. Shame on me for assuming. Thank you for your words. I am trying to live a sinless life and with God's Grace He is helping me (yeah, I know, no one is sinless). I randomly found you on facebook and appreciated your spirituality. I need help with forgiveness of my selfish ways and your writing reminded me I can ask God for His help with that.
