who you are becomes your calling

Lewis tells us about being called to something today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

He says that your talents and interests play a large role in figuring out what you are called by God to do with your life. And the pic above says, among other things, that who we ARE helps us determine what we should do. (Of course, it also means that who we are is more important than what we do. But that's a theme for another day.)

Today's message from Lewis was very liberating to me. It reminded me that what I'm currently doing (managing a bookstore) is not what I'm called to do for the rest of my life. That writing and teaching are where my strengths and interests are... and my calling is found there. That makes me feel better, because it's hard to do the thing you're not called to - you aren't especially talented at it, and you don't enjoy it very much.

Now, it may be that you're reading this and you're not sure where your talents lie, or where your interests are. Don't worry - He'll show you. Just ask Him to. I mean, if you think about it, He wants you to do what He's calling you to, right? So of course He's going to help you figure out what it is.

Thank You, God, for gifting us with our vocation - where Your yoke is easy, and Your burden is light.
