rendering to Caesar what is God's

Lewis has some really good wisdom for us today about what is worth dying for, in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

He says that we may have to die for our country, but we should not live for it. I won't belabor the point by reexplaining what he said so well. But it brings up another aspect of the same idea.

There are many things worth dying for. Our family. Our country. Even for a stranger who is in a life-threatening situation. Someone who dies for these can be rightly called a hero.

But there is only One who is truly worth living for. Only One deserves all of our respect, attention, awe, and reverence. Only One is worthy for us to live our entire lives in service to Him.

Once we learn who that One is, everything else in our lives falls into place. When He is first in our lives, everything makes sense. When He is not, nothing does.

Thank You, God, for being worth living for.
