letting go and plunging in

Lewis tells us about trying to save ourselves... and then letting God do the saving, today in A Year with C.S. Lewis.

He is pointing to the difference between trying to earn our place in heaven, versus realizing that only God can save us. And he's right, as far as that goes.

What he doesn't say (in today's reading) is how God allows us to take part in the great work that He is doing in our lives, and in the world around us. When we stop trying to "be good" and earn His approval, we are freed. We are then able to dive into the work that He's doing all around us, and has been doing all along. We are able to participate in the amazing work that He does all day, every day, in making the world a better place.

So let's throw off the idea that we can fix ourselves... and join in what He's doing in our lives and in the world. Even WE will be amazed at what we can do when we're joined to His purpose.

God, thank You for saving us... and freeing us to join in Your work.
